For this renovation of a 1970s oceanfront residence, LaGuardia Design Group reimagined the landscape to accommodate a larger pool and outdoor living areas. The original pool, once positioned between the house and the beach, had lost its ocean view as dunes grew over time. LDG relocated the pool to the rear of the house, transforming the former parking area into an elevated retreat. Raised eight feet, the new pool captures filtered ocean views through the trees and provides shelter from onshore winds, offering a calm, protected contrast to the beach beyond.

The landscape embraces a modern, Japanese-inspired aesthetic defined by simplicity, balance, and natural materials. Visitors move through a sequence of quiet spaces — from a carport to an entry court anchored by a six-foot water wall, and upward through a grove of crape myrtles to the limestone-framed pool terrace. Along the ocean side, restored dunes and meadows of beach grass reconnect the home to its coastal setting, while a weathered steel sculpture by Bernar Venet focuses views toward the horizon.

The result is a serene, contemporary landscape that unites architecture, art, and the shifting character of the shoreline.
